Connections and smooth pathways between research, policy and practice are essential to ensure that researchers can play a part in achieving social justice and making a difference to children’s lives.  Professor Smith will argue that the recognition of children as active citizens and participants in research rather than the passive objects of concern is one way to promote positive change for them.  While there are widespread demands for evidence-based policies, the translation of research into practice and policy is often haphazard, due to competing paradigms and varying political agendas.  She will argue that “evidence-based practice” is justifiable, but that this should not be narrowly interpreted.
